Colchester in Bloom Award Ceremony
Level Best Art Café are proud to have been a part of this year’s ‘Colchester in Bloom’ mission to make our town a more beautiful place. Our repesentatives (Alison, Trish, Shona, Simon and Rebecca) collected an award last night at Clarice House, Kingsford Park, Colchester and don’t they look smart!
A little about Colchester in Bloom
Our mission is to generate community involvement in making our town a more beautiful place to live and work and contribute towards social and economic vitality
Our objective is to make a difference
Every day a town centre shop closed, the streets looked unkempt grubby rundown and dismal. Morale in the town was low generally.
Then flowerbeds were dug-up to save on maintenance.
So early 2010 a Colchester in Bloom action group was formed managed totally by volunteers
Besides wanting to raise the grey feeling of the town, our aim was to improve and sustain our local environment by growing more flowers and trees. Improve and enhance the local area for residents and visitors
We engage with many green activities, encourage shops and businesses to get involved, run workshops and seminars, work closely with the parks, and run acompetition.
We have been out and improved pockets of green in and about the town, and have a list of projects that we are working on.
After our initial success last year in Anglia in Bloom competition, we gained a Silver Gilt Award, Colchester Borough Council entrusted us with the planting of the Town Hall window-ledge boxes and the 40 baskets up the poles in the main streets, (one of which had a duck nesting in it with 7 eggs which hatched with great drama into 7 noisey ducklings), we went on to win Silver Gilt again for 2011.
