WHAT ARE WE UP TO?

Planting Trees in Castle Park

Planting Trees in Castle Park

We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to not only witness the planting of two new trees in Castle Park but to plant them ourselves with James one of the Park Rangers.

The trees in question are a "Amelanchieu Lamarkii" and an "Acer Platanoides".

One is near the Roman Wall next to the nature reserve and the other is near the bowling green in the lower park (see pictures below for the trees whereabouts).

Alex surveys the sprouting bulbs we planted last year around the Imola pond with James the ranger.

We tend the Imola pond every Thursday morning, sweeping up around the paths and netting debris from the pond and collecting coins with magnets and feeding the fish (when it gets a bit warmer and they feel like eating).

Not to be left out Simon surveys some of the bulbs he planted last year.

Back to work...

we met James after tending the pond and taking our break and had to help him maneuver the gator around tree branches (so not to get tangled up) to reach our first spot for planting.

Simon, Alex and Trish dug a big enough hole.

James and Alex test the size of the hole for the first tree.

In goes the first tree.

once covered up again we put bark around the base of the new tree.

onto the next one and same again.

We are very proud to have been a part of this little bit of Castle Park history and we will enjoy seeing the trees leave in the summer (we are told that one tree will have yellow leaves and the other will have red with small white flowers).
